International Friendship Day

Recently, we had our International Friendship Day events. It was performed during recess. During the lesson before recess, all the international students were called out earlier, preparing for the performance. We hang all the traditional clothes up onto string in order to showcase their beauty. We put our traditional food on tables and prepared utensils for  our friends to eat.

During recess, our schoolmates all came to canteen to eat. They were very proactive and interested in the diversity of traditions. They tried the food at almost every table. They tried the traditional costumes as well. I saw girls putting on a Chinese costume called Qipao and she looked very enjoyable. The all praised it for the good design.

After the activity. I always think of a question. Why are we having activity like this? what are the advantages? I think basically A good friendship between two countries is beneficial to both of their citizens. At least there won’t likely to be a war. A war is really terrible. It makes all the innocent people to suffer. A good friendship with other countries will contribute to their economy as well. It will help to build a better economic connection and interaction. They can earn money through trading. Some countries have the advanced techniques when some countries have a lot of resources and materials. This is the situation when they can cooperate and make profits. A good friendship with other country will also help when your country is in difficulties such as droughts and many other natural disasters. If you have a good relationship with others and leave a good impression to them. They may give out a helping hand.

However, this is human, we only do things that are beneficial for us. It should not be like this. Even there is no benefits. We should still help each other as we are all human living on the same Mother Earth.

English Lesson Reflection

In a blink of an eye, I have been in this school for three plus months and have had many english lessons already. I would like to ask myself, am I improving or am I too indulgent with myself? Except for the compulsory work teachers have given me, I did not do any extra study. That is where I am disappointed with myself. As a international student, I have to admit that English is my weak point. I must study harder to catch up, but now I find myself stepping on the spot. I think it’s because I have already reached the target I set for myself before( pass AEIS and be enrolled by a school ), so I am already satisfied. However, it’s not right, it was just a little achievement, a good start of this long Marathon. There are still a lot of challenges waiting for me.

English lesson is very fun, things we study are always connected to the society, to our life. The knowledge we learn is very useful in real life. Teachers teach us not only for exams, test papers. They let us to think on ourselves and we can also get more ideas from others through discussion. Topics we talk about are always very new and interesting.

Although my writing skill is not bad, I am not confident with oral. When I talk in English, I will be feeling very nervous. Afraid to make any mistakes. When writing, I have time to think. Oral, conversational English is where I really need to improve in the future. In order to be fluent in English, firstly and basically is vocabulary. Speak more in English is a very good way to practice. Be brave and talk out loud.

Title of movie: Tangshan Earthquake ( My friends who had already watched it asked me to carry a towel with me )

Describe the most exciting/memorable part of the movie. What do you think?: The moment when the earthquake occurred. The wall of buildings crackled one by one gradually. At first the leak formed a line connected every building. The scene was really horrific. After a few seconds, it quaked more violently. Houses started to collapse from the top, everywhere in the air was full of fly ashes. The whole estate/area was reverberated with the continuous and annoying sound of the alarming bell. Both of the parents were working downstairs as a worker in the midnight. However, their children were still upstairs enjoying their sweet dreams. The moment they realized there was a earthquake, they rushed towards there home nearby and tried to save their beloved kids. At the critical moment, the father pulled the mother out and went in himself. Like a bolting in the blue sky, the six-floor building suddenly fell down…. The mother knelt down the ground and cried out hysterically towards the dark sky…

I don’t want to rewrite this movie, because content of this movie is really good. The story goes the way it supposed to be, so touched by it….

I strongly recommend this movie to you, it successfully represents the hatred, the misunderstanding, the love among family members.

Younger brother and the sister were under each side of one heavy cement steel plate, who to save? In the period of time without advanced techniques, lift up one side, the other will die…. Both were her precious. A really difficult question for a mom……What will be her choice?

I believe if it is possible, the mother is fully willing to sacrifice herself for the two children to survive from this disaster.

Twenty-three seconds made a family to suffer thirty-two years.

What we have heard perhaps was just a few numbers without any temperature, twenty-four millions of fatalities, sixteen millions of casualties, but if you go near every family, experience their pain of losing, it would be a new grasp of this calamity.

A Memorable Chinese New Year

Chinese Mew Year is a really important traditional festival for the Chinese. It is always related with the reunion of family. ( 团圆 )Whenever I think about it, it will give me the feeling of warm and love. It was also called Spring Festival ( 春节 )

I have been spent the past thirteen times of New Year Eve with my family, so we are used to be together at that moment, Besides, New Year is only once a year and it was a refreshing start of a new beginning. So, even there was only a three-day short holiday, I went back to China to celebrate this festival.

My parents came to fetch me at the airport when I arrived.

We made dumplings together around a big table, without the disturbing of any electronic devices. Our heart were full of peace and happiness. We chatted with one another freely. After a while, I suggested to have a Dumpling Making Competition. We compete with each other the speed of making dumplings, No doubts, I would definitely be the last one. Competition started with a ‘beep’ sound of a stopwatch. Everyone were trying their best,. Their hands flew quickly in the air like butterflies.

My mischievous three-year-old brother wanted to join us as well. He washed his hands and poured some flour on the chopping board. When he was going to start, every part of his body seemed to become very itchy. He scratched his face, wiped his forehead…. Before long, he turned white already, everywhere of him was spread with flour . He looked really funny. Sadly, a Dumpling Making Competition turned to a fight with the flour for my brother.

There were two clean coins were  contained in two of the dumplings. It was a auspicious sign for the ones who ate the  dumplings with coins. My dad and brother got one each. How lucky they were! It may not be true but it was a beautiful hope for the upcoming year.

Oops, I cannot carry on writing as I need to go to bed already. Tomorrow I will tell you more details about my Chinese New Year!Image

Dear Grace,

How have you been studying in New Zealand ? Is it beautiful ? Are you feeling stressful in study? We missed you so much. Father and mother were talking about you all the time, worrying about your conditions. They urged me to contact with you.haha.

Have you read the newspaper recently ? Alright, as I know that you don’t have the habit of reading news, let me tell you something that is quite serious. The issue was closely related to the relationship between Singapore and India, and it was very likely to have a bad affect on it as well.

Please don’t be too shocked when you hear it. An Indian national  was run over by a private bus! It was horrific, right? I was sorry to heard that. This fatal accident occurred at a junction in Little India. Things went worse as it caused angry mobs of passersby to attack the bus involved and emergency vehicles that had by then arrived at the location. They set the bus on fire even more. About 300 Indian nationals were involved in the riot which lasted for hours . This was the second riot in post-independence Singapore. However, it is a good reminder to Singaporeans that even in a stable society, such an incident can happen. After all,  Singapore is a multiracial country.

Somehow, I can understand why they would behave like this. Because they were patriotic and have the desire for others’ respect for their race. I think the Indian migrants might be  more sensitive about this as they were living in a foreign country. However, the way they expressed it was wrong and too violent. And they had also misunderstood the others, behaving like this without knowing the details thorough the whole accident. Even there is any disparity, they should not solve the problem this way, it would not make any headway but make the situation worse. Actually, no one ever had any malicious thoughts toward them.

How the India’s TV station, Sun TV reported this incident had really offended the Singaporeans. They were not telling the truth but simply comments depends on what they thought the fact would be. Besides, they were not entitled to report this incident. They said that the foreign workers were attacked by Chinese Singaporeans and that the person who died in the accident was pushed off from the bus and run over by a female bus driver.

What do you think, Grace? Does it make sense? Why would a female bus driver push a passenger out? She would be put behind the bars by doing this as Singapore is one of the countries with the most strict laws. This was considered  murder! The truth was the male was drunk and the bus was full but he climbed on and started causing trouble such as took off his cloths. Then they asked him to alight GENTLY. After alighting from the bus, he kept chasing after the bus in an unsteady manner. He then stumbled , tripped and fell onto the path of the rear tyre of the bus and was run over.

It’s true that we had responsibility for this sad incident but, we did not do it on purpose as what they had said at all.

There is no point of discriminate against any race of people. We are all sharing the same air, the same sky, the same ground, the same environment, the same earth. Our body systems are the same as well. All of us need oxygen, need food to survive. We all have family, have the people we love the most. And also sometimes we will cry, will be feeling bad when we encounter failures, difficulties. We are emotional animals. As what I think, different countries of people are just from different groups. When natural disaster come, no one will be able to escape, the nature does not know your nationality so it is fair to every one. There is no need of feeling superior of the race you are and look down others.

In another word, we are all human. As what Nelson Mandela had said,’No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.

Do you have the same feelings with me? These are my opinion on this incident and also sensitive race things. How about you? Looking forwards your response.

Wish you all good!

Love

Struggle in AEIS for All International Students ( draft one )

I am an international student from Chong Boon Secondary School Class 1-E1 and my name is Zhu Yiqing. I came to Singapore on last year April 16th when exactly my thirteen birthday was.My parents found a international school called SSTC through their friends recommendations. The school is located at Dhoby Ghaut. There were three other friends came with me. I lived in my school hostel at Yio Chu Kang, it was quite far. .When I first came, I could only understand by half guess and half listening . And was also very difficult to communicate with others in English. On the first day I went to school , I tried really hard to learn and study. Teacher taught us twenty words the first day. However, days past and the number of words we learned everyday gradually increased to sixty. Although ,it was really hard and needed a lot of effort and time. Suffering from tiring and also missing for my family, my parents ,my home, I have thought of giving up, and surrender to difficulties. However , before long, I would regain my passion and confidence.A lot of people and also my teacher told me frequently that how difficult the exam was .  In the previous years, there was merely about 10% or below students could pass. So, I was very scared .One of my friends was scared away….You may think that it was unbelievable, but it was true. After one month of staying here, he actually went back to China .I studied really hard , stay up until three, four o’clock was normal for me. I did a lot of extra exercise. After almost half a year, the examination finally came.  . Even the night before AEIS, I also didn’t sleep. I thought it made no difference for me, I was used to it already.10th of October  was an important day for me, that was when both my mental and physical suffering ended. Then , after that , I immediately went back to China. I missed her so much—my country. Even it was a place where we usually complained about , but I really love it!. It made me felt warm and welcomed. And I also realized that I was not alone.I stayed in China for two months , spending time together with my family and also waiting for the result on nervous . Time flew, 24th of December , nine o’clock, i could always remember the accurate time when my school teacher called . My mom answered . She actually screamed out .  I was informed that I passed the exam and enrolled into a government school, and express course as well. My friends didn’t got government schools, I felt sad for them , but while I was studying , they were either playing or sleeping.

The Story of A Pencil Case

Class: Perseverance 1-E1

Title: The Story of A Pencil Case ( Draft 1 )

“ Heh, heh! Excuse me….” I yelled in displeasure. OH MY GOD! Was there an earthquake ?  I was aroused by some noise and shaking . I was just dreaming about an ice-cream. It was a sunny day. The sunlight was so bright that I could not opened my eyes. I stretched my arms and looked around out of the zipper. Trees and people were flying pass me.

“ Please stop, wait for me! I am going to be late for school !” . It suddenly dawned on me that my owner , Andy , was rushing to the bus stop in order to catch the bus to his school. I sighed in disappointment . It happened nearly every morning. It had already been a scene at the bus stop!

He tapped his ez-link card and found a seat near the window. Putting on the headset , Andy took out of his homework that was not done yet . I was also taken out and I was kind of proud that he could not do any piece of work without me .  My owner started to write in a really messy manner. He needed to hurry and finish up his homework before the teachers collected at the beginning of the day.

“Ding dong” , the door opened and Andy looked up to check where he was. “ Ohhhh…. I have missed the right stop a stop away !” He quickly packed his schoolbag and dashed out of the bus.      “ Boy ,boy! You dropped your pencil case !” one of the passengers shouted but he had already disappeared in the crowd as it was during the peak hours. I lied on the cold seat ,alone, and was forgotten by the busy world. Everyone was rushing. Students were rushing for school . Adults were rushing for work.

Let me introduce myself. As what you had heard just now on the bus , I was a pencil case. Andy’s mom sent me to him as a birthday gift and also to encourage him to study harder. She brought me in a small stationery shop belonged to an old couple . I stayed with them for a long time as I was not that good-looking as any others.( so seldom people would have the desire to buy me ) They put in a lot of effort  to run this little business . They used a soft towel to wipe away the dust on my plastic clothes ( cover ) every single day. I had always been trying to talk with them or draw their attention but it was futile. They always ignored me and assumed that I had no brain or any feelings.  I trusted them so much and never thought that they would sell me out to a stranger! When they exchanged me with money, which was just a few pieces of paper in my eye, I could clearly hear the cracking sound of my breaking heart. Tears rolling down my cheeks, they simply thought that it was just water accidentally splashed on me.Tears was blood without colors.

The bus suddenly jolted and pulled me back from my recollection  to the reality and the horrible situation I was in. I slipped onto the ground. After a long period of time, no one even noticed me,no one cared about my exist. My eyes looked around in a trance-like manner. I was numb in feelings already.I blamed the destiny of being unfair.

A pair of warm hands touched my skin and gently picked me up. ” Whose pencil case is it?”.  I could tell that the voice belonged to a teenage girl. She walked around in the bus and asked the passengers one by one.” Is this yours, sir ?” many people shook their heads and I could clearly feel the disappointment shown in her tone. She handed me to the bus driver before alighting. The driver smiled and praised her for her good deed.

The uncle put me on the windowsill. I glanced out casually with a depressed mood. The scene outside caused my jaw to drop to the ground. How beautiful the world was! I exclaimed in elation. My heart was unexpectedly cleaned by the beauty and tranquil of the nature. The chirping of the birds in the flourish trees comforted me further. Why had I neglected nature in all its beauty until now? The white clouds kept changing their shapes continually. Sometimes it looked like a little cute kitty, then after a while it became a hamburger. Wasn’t it interesting?  They were like cotton candies floating in the shallow blue sky. The sky was also as clear as diamond. It seemed to be transparent.

I traveled with the driver for the whole day, and saw a lot of things I had never seen before in my entire life. I saw children playing happily, burden-freely on the playground with their parents. That was a question I have always been wondering about. Where were my family? I admired that kind of love. Love that was without reason and never asking things in return. I saw disabled people striving for a better life. I saw gardener concentrating on trimming bushes in different shapes. I saw workers repairing the roads under the scorching sun. I saw everyone trying their best on their duties. I saw everyone contributing their parts to the society.

Earlier before , my life consisted of stationery shop and the stomach of the schoolbag only. I never know that the world was so colorful and optimistic. I was like a frog at the bottom of a well– able only to see the little patch of sky above.

In the blink of an eye, the night came. The road lamps were turned on and the city totally changed her appearance. The neon lamps outside the shops or around the brims of the title were so bright and nice. They waved to me, saying ‘welcome!’.

The day ended at a bus interchange. The uncle brought me down the bus with him. I was curious where he was going and how he was going to deal with me. My heart thumped wildly against my chest. I was feeling insecure. He took me into an office called ‘ Lost and Found Office ‘ and filled a form. After that, he left. An old lady put me in a room with some other items. There was an alarm clock sat nearby me. Her name was Grace. She wore a pink dress and with two big ears on each side of her head. The two hands( indicator)inside her transparent cover had already stopped working for a long time because they never fed her with battery. She was very friendly and told me about her past and how she came to here. Through her introduction, I knew that she had already been here for almost half a year. Her owner was a student also. Grace accompanied her for a few years. Once, her auntie gave her a new alarm clock. She threw Grace away on a bench in the MRT station. See, this kind of tragedy always repeatedly happened on us. We comforted each other and always stayed together with each other.

After a year, no one came to fetch us. I was used to my new life. However it was always not the way we thought it would be.

One day, a figure went in the room and packed all of us into a big jute bag and put us in a car. The carried us to a church. We were delivered to the needy as a donation. They were so poor to afford any stationery, but they wanted to study and go to school. I felt so sad for the plight that they were in. We needed to let the rich students know that there were still a lot of children in this world were suffering from poverty and not to easily throw their belongings just because they were bored about it and wanted something new.

I felt satisfied about my new work–to serve the poor. They treated me as their precious. Because they had so little, they treasured so much…..
